The Artists' Guild of San Francisco is Artist centered and driven. Our main goal is the success of our Members as artists and entrepreneurs. To this end AGSF provides the organizational structure and professional guidelines so you will have the opportunity to present and offer your art to the public in a consistent and sophisticated manner at “outdoor gallery” venues.

The Application Process is two-fold.

  1. Initial review of your application and website by the AGSF Preliminary Membership Jury. You will be notified within 2 weeks of online application if you have been approved as an applicant. 

  2. If approved  and you want to proceed and a Jury fee of $25 will be assessed. You will be scheduled for a Face-to-Face interview with the Membership Jury  at which time you will be expected to present 6-10 original works of art. Acceptance as an “Initiate”  Member *  will be by majority vote and you will be notified within one week of the results. The Membership Jury meets once per month so the  entire application process should completed within 6 weeks time from original online application.

In order to help you understand what is expected once a Member of the Guild we have summarized the following :

BASICS OF AGSF MEMBERSHIP:

  1. You are a local artist living in San Francisco Bay Area.  You have means to transport your art and set-up shows, at various Show locations, and be personally present for day long shows.

  1. You produce original fine art in a quality and quantity that would allow you to be successfully present at  AGSF shows on a regular basis and if choose an Active level of Membership, show at least 20 times per year. (See Calendar on front page of website for typical show dates and locations. Shows are from  9 a.m. to dusk and usually over 70 shows are offered every year.)

  1. You will be willing to follow the established Bylaws and Rules and Regulations as outlined in the AGSF Handbook.  (You will be given online access to these once accepted as an applicant and scheduled for  face-to face Membership Jury)

  1. Once accepted you will be an “Initiate” for a minimum of ten shows. During this Initiate period, which has a maximum time-line of 6 months, you will be able to “rent” Show set up equipment for $300. These include “A” frames, umbrella, table. You will be expected to build or purchase your own thereafter.

  2. You will choose your Membership Participation Level once you complete your “Initiate" period.   Annual dues and Show Fees are determined by your Membership Level. Different membership levels provide different benefits and commitments in terms of show attendance, show fees and volunteer hours.

  3. You must have internet access and email. All AGSF communication and Show information is done online. 

  4. You will be required to have or obtain a California resale number from the Board of Equalization.

Application Process

  2. Your work will receive a preliminary review. Members will review your application and your art work on your website. If you don't have a website you can email images after you application is submitted.

  3. A member will contact you to schedule a jury date.

  4. You'll be asked to bring in a body of 6 to 10 pieces of your work for jury review. The work should be consistent and professional in material and framing. We do not allow the display of photography,giclees or prints. Your work should exhibit the following elements:

    • The work you bring should be a consistent, gallery-quality, ready-to-hang show
    • Your work should show originality
    • It should have life energy and depth
    • Shows good technical knowledge, understanding and execution of your medium(s)
    • Presented in a professional manner comparable to that displayed in galleries
    • Your work should avoid being commercial/market driven/designer oriented
